- I was born in Tokoroa New Zealand to Maori parents; my father Ngapuhi, Ngati Kura/Ngati Kahu and my mother Tainui, Ngati Raukawa. I was given away at birth to an aunty and uncle to raise. I grew up in a small place between Matamata and Rotorua called Tapapa, living on a farm without electricity or town water supply. I still have a laugh when I remember our twin-seater long drop.
