Lynette La Mere, founder and proprietor of Pure Joy Catering, learned to cook at her grandfather’s side, and he encouraged her to attend classes in restaurant management and food preparation. In 2001, those efforts paid off when La Mere founded Pure Joy Catering in Santa Barbara, California. Today, Pure Joy Catering provides full-service catering and event planning to customers in the central part of the state. In a typical year, Pure Joy Catering might serve as many as 20,000 guests at weddings, corporate events, cocktail parties, bat/bar mitzvahs, and theme parties.
Pure Joy Catering helps clients plan and execute special events by taking into account individual needs and concerns. Pure Joy Catering staff members pride themselves on accommodating clients with budget limitations, dietary restrictions, and other special needs. This attention to detail has earned Pure Joy Catering a number of awards from its client base, including Bride’s Choice Awards from WeddingWire.com in 2009, 2010, and 2011. Readers of the Santa Barbara Independent voted Pure Joy Catering the area’s number one wedding planner and The Knot magazine’s bride readers named it the best caterer in central California twice.
At Pure Joy Catering, the staff understands that long-term success involves more than just pleasing clients. The caterer takes care to minimize its ecological footprint and maximize its sustainability. Pure Joy Catering’s efforts include recycling or composting 90 percent of kitchen waste, encouraging clients to choose compostable or reusable rather than disposable décor items, selecting only seasonal ingredients and floral decorations, and minimizing paper waste in its business practices. These efforts recently earned Pure Joy Catering a Green Star from the City of Santa Barbara.
In addition to its ecological endeavors, Pure Joy Catering reaches out to the people of Santa Barbara. The company supports the Food Bank of Santa Barbara’s Backpack Program, which distributes food-filled backpacks every weekend to community children in need. Pure Joy Catering also maintains membership in the National Association of Women Business Owners.
