In the 1920's, Frank Davis, Sr., his wife and two children lived in the state of Missouri. They were told by their family doctor that their extremely allergy prone 8 year old daughter, Jane, would be better off if they moved directly south to the warm, healthy climate of South Texas. Frank and his wife Kitty had tried everything for their daughter's health and this was the only solution they seemed to have left.
Frank Davis had worked for 14 years for a large mail order business, in the early days of mail order, selling household items to rural areas of America. His first trip to South Texas was by himself by train to see what his job prospects might be. Frank arrived near the border of Mexico and decided this was about as far south as he should go.
