Carol has traveled and led safaris to Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Kenya and Tanzania. The quote “Once you’ve become a part of Africa, it becomes a part of you” best describes Carol’s love for this special part of the world. Whether it be canoeing down the Zambezi River within a few feet of a 7-ton bull elephant, or capturing some precious moments with a family of wild gorillas, that is Carol's idea of spending quality time. In her dedication to preserving Africa’s wilderness, she encourages safari goers to walk lightly and appreciate the continent’s challenges.
Carol expanded her love for watching wildlife in Africa to other parts of the world by leading trips to observe the unique plant and animal species in Galapagos and Ecuador, and the magnificent polar bears in Churchill, Manitoba. She started a small tour company, Nature Encounters Tours & Travel Ltd., that emphasizes small group and low impact eco-tours with service and flexibility of utmost importance. 2003 will bring exciting new destinations such as South Africa and Alaska for Carol.
When not exploring the African wilds, she shares her most memorable experiences of this beautiful mysterious land in a "live" video/slide presentation. The Dark Continent as you've never seen it before. In addition to presenting slide shows, Carol can be found coordinating the many facets of Petersen Photography or Nature Encounters Tours & Travel, volunteering her time and photographic skills to various animal conservation groups or just enjoying nature.
