Description

Savitri L. Bess is a transpersonal therapist, workshop facilitator, and fiber artist who has been awarded Fulbright and NEA grants. While living as a monastic at an ashram in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania in the mid-70's, she studied Hindu philosophy and religion. In 1985 she received a masters in counseling, became a therapist in private practice, and founded and directed the Center for Creative Consciousness in Tucson, Arizona, where she taught yoga and meditation and conducted workshops.

In 1992, after having immersed herself for many years in the visual, emotional, and spiritual expression of the dark, Savitri met Mata Amritanandamayi, a holy woman from India, also known as Ammachi or Amma and dubbed by the press as "The Hugging Saint." Savitri gave up her counseling practice and yoga center, put her belongings in storage, and left the country to live and study with the Holy Mother in India. Later Savitri became a resident of the Amma Center of New Mexico, in Santa Fe, one of Ammachi's ashrams in the USA. Savitri now resides in Southwest Harbor on Mt. Desert Island, Maine, where she writes and contemplates in nature. She continues to spend time with Ammachi in India and other locations in the US and abroad.

A non-fiction book presenting a six-stage journey to union with the Universal Mother framed by Savitri's years of devotion to one of the Mother's most famous incarnations--the Hindu mystic Ammachi. Click for more information
