Title
Original Wood and Bronze Sculpture
Description
Back in the 1970s when economical times were better, Oppenheimer enjoyed success making dolphin sculptures in bronze and selling them in galleries in California. He also taught woodworking and art in The Dalles and taught private drawing classes from time to time.
But by 1981 the checks for his bronze sculptures weren’t coming in as fast as he needed them and jobs in this area were scarce so he took a “real job” in Ohio. He worked in sales and advertising for a manufacturing plant, and during those years about the only creative outlet he had was doing some advertising layout and design. And he grew homesick.
“I missed Hood River a lot,” he said. “I didn’t really appreciate how great it was until I left. We finally came back here in 1990.”
