edit Open Source Digital Voting Foundation

The Open Source Digital Voting Foundation ( OSDV ) is a community of technology and policy experts who have come together to address the lack of technical guidelines and specifications for determining truly high-assurance, high-veracity digital voting devices. Founded by E. John Sebes and Gregory Miller after the 2006 midterm elections and the resulting voting controversies, OSDV is a pending public benefit company working with an open source model. All work of this organization will be publicly available without any royalty fees. OSDV projects, like most open source projects, will be done by a volunteer community of developers and other experts. OSDV strives to be completely transparent and its processes are available for public review, comment, and participation.

edit Open Source Nature of the Project

The open source nature of the project makes it possible for developers to contribute constructively to the building of something that will be open for use without any charge and for public benefit. This also means that all the efforts and results (guidelines, tools, software, etc.) are openly discussed and people work on them in a collaborative and meritocratic way. The work of the developers and other contributers is organized on OSDV's wiki.

edit Manifesto

"The deplorable state of U.S. voting technology and adoption thereof has motivated the OSDV manifesto, “Lectio Reformo” – a phrase we’ve very loosely coined from Latin to suggest “reforming elections."

edit Joining Open Source Digital Voting Foundation

OSDV encourages participation from people with a wide range of backgrounds and experience. Volunteers usually opt in for tasks like developing OSDV product, reviewing the work, coordinating, planning, endorsing, or helping to get the word out about OSDV. The process of joining OSDV is very simple. People can join the effort by filling out a contact form which allows the OSDV team to follow up with them to discuss their areas of interest and how they can contribute. Alternatively, if somebody does not want to volunteer, they can still support OSDV by becoming a member. Specifically, people can contribute to OSDV in four major areas:
