Niotso is the “New Implementation of The Sims Online”, aiming to restore The Sims Online as free software.
Tests to the claim
Niotso marks the journey of reprogramming The Sims Online from scratch as free software. The maintainer of the project has vowed not to even accept donations until the first server bill, and there will never be any advertisements, on the website or in the client.
Further, findings are published with screenshots and a technical analysis of the formats used ingame. Hardships are discussed thoroughly and are NOT hidden from the public eyes.
A strong point of the website itself is that it makes use of no social services whatsoever apart from an uncensored comment box. There is no artificial hype. This can be used to ask the programmer questions directly—and he'll answer!

The project will implement a client that appears and functions exactly as the original did.
As in the original game, the player will be able to:
- Talk with other Sims
- Make a lot and attract visitors
- Go to work or run a job object to earn money
- Skill up to earn achievements and new opportunities to make money
- Play multiplayer games such as the Maze and the Restaurant
Expansions
Further, Niotso's nature allows others to add new features as they so choose. It's all up to the people who are running the server. New translations, new objects, and completely new gameplay elements are possible modifications to the Niotso software. What the Niotso programmers put out for preserving the original game, others can extend.
