Mutiny Bay Farm
The entry to the Mutiny Bay Farm begins off Wahl Road, and winds through a iron gate onto a dirt road passing numerous stands of alder and noble and grande fir. Several large maple trees mark the opening in the distance to the lakelands which include an upper marsh lake which drains through a woodland stream to the large open manmade lake area. The drive continues past the west end of the lake and onto a drive lined with endangered American and European chestnut trees planted by my father over 60 years ago. The view through the chestnut trees is of Mutiny Bay. The bluff drops to a sandy beach built up over many years by acreded inlet sand. An arbor of English roses runs the south side of the vegetable garden. Orchards have recently been selectively replanted with northwest species of fruit trees and coastal peach and apricots, a few imported fig and quince. Some of the very old King and Gravenstein apple trees remain showing the wear of birds and insects. The 1939 tractor provides the system by which the garden is plowed and disked. The pastures are organically maintained by, of course, sheep!
