Description

Mike Barber (Performer) originally hails from Spokane, Washington. He has been involved in the Northwest performance scene since 1985, dancing in works by Seattle artists Pat Graney, Wade Madsen and Llory Wilson, Oakland choreographer Randee Paufve, as well as Daniel Addy/Aviator, Gregg Bielemeier, Tracy Broyles, Mary Oslund and Cydney Wilkes in Portland with whom he creates work as wilkes.barber/Proximity. He was co-director of aero/betty aerial dance theater from 1996-2000, and currently produces and appears in the traveling performance party series Ten Tiny Dances. Prior to settling in Portland, he refined his physical comedy skills on Broadway with Bill Irwin. Barber’s work as a choreographer and as curator of The Chair Project has been supported by a variety of organizations including the Djerassi Resident Artist Program, Regional Arts & Culture Council, Oregon Education Association, and the Meyer Memorial Trust. Barber is a teacher of at-risk students for Portland Public Schools; he began working with Minh Tran in 1999.

Jae Diego (Performer/Administrator) Raised in Vermont, Jae Diego trained at Connecticut College, The Boston Conservatory and The Dance Center at Harvard University. In 1991 she was selected to dance with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company in their production of The Last Supper at Uncle Tom’s Cabin/The Promised Land. Since moving to Portland in 1995, she has appeared in the work of contemporary choreographers Gregg Bielemeier, Carla Mann, Tere Mathern, Josie Moseley, Oslund+Co/Dance, and was a founding member of the former aero/betty aerial dance theater. In Portland her choreography has been shown at Reed College Arts Week, on White Bird’s 99/00 dance season, at Conduit Dance, and in two installments of 10 Tiny Dances. As both a performer and choreographer, Diego has received support from First Night, Inc, the Vermont Arts Council and the Regional Arts & Culture Council for which she has also served as a grant panelist. She is currently a member of Conduit Dance’s Resource Council and also performs with Tere Mathern Dance. She has worked with Minh Tran since 1999.

Sarah Ebert (Performer) is from Illinois where she graduated with a B.F.A. in dance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She additionally holds an M.F.A. in Dance from the University of Oregon and has continued her training through prestigious dance programs including New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts Summer Dance Workshop, and the acclaimed Bates Dance Festival in Lewiston, Maine. Ebert has danced professionally with wonderslamdance and Hedwig Dances in Chicago, and has additionally worked with numerous independent choreographers including Lisa Wymore, Bob Eisen, Linda K. Johnson, Mary Oslund and Gabriel Masson, among others. As an educator, Ebert has taught modern, ballet, jazz and hip-hop dance classes at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Robert Morris College in Chicago, and the University of Oregon. This is her first season with Minh Tran & Company.
