Mitchell Humphrey was founded in 1977 by Mitchell O. Humphrey. Prior to starting the company, Mr. Humphrey was a partner-in-charge of consulting for a 4-state region at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. (now KPMG). Based on his extensive experience in public accounting, Mr. Humphrey saw a void in the accounting software market. He knew there was a market for highly flexible, feature-rich accounting software, and was determined to develop “an accountant’s” accounting system. We introduced FMS-80, our first solution, in 1980 and followed that up with the first release of our current FMS II system in 1993.

In 1999, Mitchell Humphrey employees acquired a controlling interest in the company through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan, or ESOP. As Chairman of the Board, Mr. Humphrey continues to provide strategic direction and guidance.

In November of 2002, Mitchell Humphrey acquired GovXcel, a full suite of permits and licensing software including Construction, Zoning, Land Use, Property Maintenance, Device Inspections, Fire Prevention, Civic Complaints, Marriage/Pet Licenses, Interdepartmental Reporting, Tax Accessor Database Interface, and GIS Mapping. This acquisition was part of our plan to broaden our software offering to regional and municipal governments. We then enhanced the products (now our Community Development Solutions) and integrated them with our FMS II solution to provide a comprehensive vertical solution for government services.

In 2006, Mitchell Humphrey secured a strategic partnership with PDS Software that enables us to offer our clients web-based, feature-rich, completely integrated Human Resource, Benefits Aministration, and Payroll software applications. These systems enable our clients to focus more on strategic issues and less on administrative HR and payroll activities. All of our PDS Software solutions feature full integration with FMS II.

Today, Mitchell Humphrey’s employee-owners provide application software and services to well over 200 clients across North America. Our clients are a very diverse group of organizations which include mid-sized businesses, Fortune 500 corporations, state and local governments, educational institutions, and not-for-profit entities.
