About Us
Millville Harley-Davidson was established in 1975 by Frank Macrine and his son, Sam Macrine. In 1975 things were vastly different. Harley did not have the immense following and popularity it has today, so our dealership was a small and humble family business. In those days, enticing customers to test ride a Harley would require giving away novelties like belt buckles and t-shirts.
The dealership looked like a typical garage—concrete floors, peg-board walls and oil dripping from bikes in the showroom. “Good customer service” constituted discounting the bikes and ensuring they would make it to the customer’s house without breaking down. Contrary to the high-demand sales of today, in the 70’s, you could ride a Harley off the lot the same day with no waiting period.
Sales were very seasonal. During the winter months, a work day would consist of playing poker in the back room, hoping that a customer would walk through the door. When someone finally came in, we begged them to sit on the bike or take it out for a test ride. Frankly, we wondered why these folks would ever purchase these motorcycles.
