Pamela Bennett, the publisher for Midwest Times, began her journey on the Internet in 1994 with Queer Living. This site was first introduced as a gathering place for the LGBT community and was housed on Geocities. It was one of the first and only LGBT sites available to midwestern gays and lesbians. Queer Living was recognized with over 16 different awards and crowned as one the leading sites in the Geocities neighborhoods. Ms. Bennett was appointed and acted as a Community Leader at Geocities for three years prior to their eventual purchase by the Yahoo.com companies. Queer Living had grown tremendously over the course of time and outgrew the minimal space allowed by most hosting companies in the early nineties. In 1994, Ms. Bennett launched OUTMidwest, a portal for the midwestern LGBT communities that included many interactive features that were relatively new to the worldwide web. This site received special recognitions from the Mental Health Association and various LGBT organizations for its savvy style and dedication to delivering a pride positive atmosphere.

As a freelance writer, Ms. Bennett became involved with various publications and eventually landed a position as editor for a local LGBT magazine. After two years, she decided the Kansas City area needed a publication that they could be proud to have represent them. Midwest Times was born.
