The area surrounding Chaudenay, in the very heart of Burgundy will delight you with its gently undulating fertile landscape, its tranquil waterways and acre upon acre of vineyards. While the area served by towns such as Beaune and Nuits - Saint Georges can rightfully claim to produce some of the world's best quality wines, it also has a broad range of history, art and architecture. You will find an interesting array of Renaissance châteaux, ancient abbeys and former feudal fortresses littered across the region.
Amongst the 'must do' visits will be Beaune just minutes away from our Maison. An elegant and attractive town with convenient pedestrian areas Beaune demonstrates some of the former grandeur and glory once accredited to this region. Within its medieval walls you will find the Hôtel-Dieu, a 15th century hospital that saw 500 years of service, the Musée du Vin de Bourgogne graphically illustrates the region's 2000 years of wine history and many delightful boutiques selling pewter, wine related decorative ornaments and not forgetting the wine itself!
Local History...
The principal feature in our commune of Chaudenay is Saint Veran church dating back to the 12th century. In neighbouring Chagny you will find St Martin's with its listed roman church tower, a 19th c Italian theatre, the vibrant Sunday morning village market, and easy access to the Central Canal. The area is very popular with cyclists and walkers with a variety of tracks and routes. As always you are never far from the vineyards with the 'Route des Grands Vins' passing through Chagny. Within a very short drive you can arrive at a cluster of celebrated vineyards of Burgundy such as Meursault, Pommard, Monthalie and Puligny Montrachet.
