Description
Loch David Crane was born in San Diego, CA in 1948, but his magical career began in the 1960s when he was still a teenager. Working with marionettes, a Chinese Magic act and hypnosis, he discovered that magic could entertain adults and bring him to a more equal intellectual footing. He immediately joined the Junior Magicians of San Diego. (Nowadays he finds himself using magic just to keep on an even ground with the children!)
Today, of course, he is also well known as a member of the Society of American Magicians, International Brotherhood of Magicians, The Magic Circle of London, and the Academy of Magical Arts/Hollywood Magic Castle. (Be sure to ask for your Magic Castle admit card!)
Crane's schooling included academically challenging courses and a healthy dose of individuality in shops and mechanical classes. He practiced stage Magic during his college years before pursuing a secondary teaching career. One of his first parlor illusions, the "Professor's Nightmare," changes 3 uneven ropes into the same length, and then back again. After 20 years' practice he eventually learned to do this 18th Century trick with steel dog chains, and it was the hit of his audition at the world-renowned Magic Castle in Hollywood.
