The Journal Gazette has been a fixture in Fort Wayne in one form or another since the Civil War, when, in 1863, The Fort Wayne Gazette was founded.

Merged with The Journal in 1899, the paper has been locally owned its entire history. Julie Inskeep is the third member of her family to serve as publisher. Her family has controlled the paper since 1930. It has been a local sponsor of the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee for half a century, and The Journal Gazette Foundation quarterly awards local grants benefiting children, youth and families.

Today, The Journal Gazette is an aggressive, responsible, regional news organization that advocates for the public and enables journalists to do their best work.
