Alissa J. Stern has been weaving since 1986. She specializes in weaving articles for Jewish life cycle traditions because she feels that it is important to both mark the importance of a ritual in terms of "weaving" a new stage in a person's life and to pass something on to other generations. She uses only the finest fibers to create judaica as beautiful as the life cycle tradition themselves.
Trained as an anthropologist at Cornell and a lawyer at Harvard Law School, Alissa J. Stern spent most of her professional career running a nonprofit environmental dispute resolution organization.
Alissa's work brought her to many countries in Asia, Europe, and Latin America, where she was struck by the universality of weaving and the similarity of Jewish weaving, in particular, in countries as diverse as Hungary and Indonesia.
