Crookabeck is a 40 acre (16 ha) farm beneath Place Fell. It is marked on the 1:25000 Ordnance Survey Outdoor Leisure Map No. 5, The English Lakes NE area, at grid reference 402156. MAP

To the South is the Kirkstone Pass (1,500 feet ) to Windermere and to the North is Ullswater which is 8 miles long. We overlook the impressive Hellvellyn mountain range (3118 feet) and Striding Edge.

Crookabeck was built in the 1700's and is named after the double bend in the nearby Goldrill Beck which is shaped like a shepherd's crook. All the rainfall, over 90" per year, ends up in the Goldrill Beck which feeds into Ullswater.
