- In 1975, a railroad brakeman went to a club in Colorado. It was there that he first saw a Disc Jockey, which was unusual for the time because most clubs had bands. Inspired by these DJs, he had an idea to take the service mobile. He took this idea back to Orange County, California and put an ad in the local paper inviting customers to hire him for their event at $150 for four hours of service. When customers saw this remarkable price, they would call and inquire about how many guys were in his band. When he explained to them that he was a DJ and played records, he always heard the same response: "Who dances to records?" and the customer would hang up. Customers didn't understand because the concept of a mobile DJ was completely new. Also, at that time, his only competitor played music from behind curtains, had no lights and didn't DJ or entertain.
