Ruth's interest in miniatures started over 25 years ago with the purchase of a doll house. This interest grew into a home business and then into a retail store. The Hanke's owned a retail craft store on Main street in Blue Earth, MN for a number of years prior to switching to mail-order. About 20 years ago, Ruth wrote her first book "Miniature Houseplants" which has been a consistent seller over the years and continues in popularity among miniaturists. This book went through a revision about 12 years ago. About the same time the revision to this popular book was printed, Ruth also began making miniature flowers using paper and punches. Ruth has worked with several companies to develop new punches to be able to make a wider variety of leaf shapes. In addition to the punches, Ruth also began using laser cut leaves to get the precision required to make certain types of flowers.
