Title

Haddock's Little Corner

Description

Our parents were Raymond and Gladys (Stamper) Haddock. They came from poor, hard working families and experienced tough times during the Great Depression. All their lives, they worked hard to provide for their family. Our Dad died at the age of 59 in 1964, but Mom lived to be 92 before she passed on in January of 2000. They raised 16 wonderful children (at least we think so), and at last count, there were 41 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Many, many times during their lives they were asked why they had so many children. Well, the story our father tells goes a little like this:

After they were married, they settled in a little town in Oklahoma and lived in a very small house that was right next to a railroad track. Everyday, the train would roll by very early in the morning with such a loud roar and rattle that it would always wake them up. Trying to make himself heard over the loud noise, our father would ask..."well Gladys, should we get up or what"? Not quite hearing his question, Mother would reply "WHAT"! And the rest is obvious. That, we're told, is why they were blessed with so many children.
