Description
Jacob Whitmore was a noted pewter maker in the 1750's. Succeeding generations owned and operated farms, sawmills, and granite quarries.
In 1925, George & Chauncey Whitmore (father and son) decided to try their hands at woodworking. They built reproduction beds, nightstands, dining tables, and all manner of wood furniture, most of native woods.They subsequently branched out to repairing and finishing. At the end of World War II, John Whitmore joined the family business and continues to play an active role. His daughter, Beryl Whitmore Thorpe, joined in 1980.
The business continues to flourish on the original 1925 site. We think you will agree, our facility is a fascinating mix of craftsmanship and charm.
