ABOUT FRASER ISLAND

Fraser Island is a spectacular unspoiled paradise of sweeping beaches, breathtaking rainforests, natural lakes and wonderful scenery that justifies the World Heritage Listing. Fraser Island is just off the Queensland coast of Australia and only 3 1/2 hours drive north of Brisbane or flights can be arranged for you to fly in and land on the beach. Fraser Island has an abundance of freshwater perched and window lakes. Lake Boomanjin is the largest perched lake in the world covering some 200 hectares and has a shoreline of melaleuca trees.

Lake Mc Kenzie with its wonderful white sandy beach and crystal clear waters is very popular along with Lake Wabby, Basin Lake, Lake Allom, Lake Bawarrady and Ocean Lake to mention a few. The rainforests are really amazing with huge trees and lush wild undergrowth. Central Station, the site of the original forestry camp set up in 1920 is now a beautiful picnic ground with walking tracks along the palm and fern lined Wanggoolba Creek and on to Basin Lake.

From the stark contrast of the rainforests to the desert like sandblow at Rainbow Gorge to a swim in the one millions gallons of spring water that flows out of Eli Creek into the ocean, the shipwreck of the Maheno, blown ashore in a cyclone in 1935, the brilliant coloured sands at The Pinnacles, experience the wonders of driving along the beach north to Indian Head, first sighted and named by Captain Cook and the Champagne pools and on to Orchid Beach and much more including the long haul if you wish to visit the lighthouse at Sandy Cape built in 1881.
