FantasyReef.com is a comprehensive site for the marine aquarium hobbiest and freshwater enthusiasts. Although not exclusively catering to planted freshwater tanks, that is the main focus in the freshwater area.
FantasyReef.com has completely searchable and easy-to-use databases for marine fish, corals and inverts and freshwater plants. The site sports private member photo galleries, a chatroom and very nice calculators for a number of things from tank size to how long a bucket of salt will last.
This is a great place to hang your hat! The people are friendly and knowledgable and all levels of hobbiest are welcome.

Those are some very nice and helpful folks that run that site I've found. There are folks who'll actually "hold your hand" thru setup and running your fish tank. Salt and fresh water.
