It started from the simple pleasure of taking raw ingredients, putting them together and (with practice) coming up with food that was sometimes as good as the foods we’d been buying at supermarkets, takeaways and, even some restaurants. So, fired up with great enthusiasm for home cooking and a growing distain for busy, faceless supermarkets we found ourselves increasingly using delis, markets and specialist shops. Along the way, we found that what had once been a supermarket chore, had become enjoyable, rewarding and fun….it truly was a ‘re’-discovery of food. We’ve recently added ‘pickling’ to the repertoire and the perfection of wine making is just around the corner!
Armed with a passion for good food and a firm belief in supporting local shops, the discover food team have been busy compiling lists of delis, specialist food shops and markets for this site, sharing what knowledge we have, while developing our own passion. We hope you too discover the best places to find the best ingredients for your cooking.
Buying food grown locally, or imported and sold by experts, means not only do you get the best ingredients for the job but often, you can pick up a little inside knowledge while you shop, a service you don’t often get at large supermarkets (it’s sometimes a little cheaper too…but don’t tell anyone!).
