Country Candle® Company, three generations spanning 60 years, has dedicated itself to making quality candles. Located in the old historic New England town of Northborough, Massachusetts, the Laurence family has been manufacturing premium scented and church candles, that continue to satisfy many of their initial clients or customers to this day.
In 1943 Ernest Laurence, owner of a modest grocery store, began producing devotional candles to expand his business and create a new avenue for future growth. He poured his first votive candle in the cellar of his home. The business grew and within a year, he closed the grocery store and bought a historic mill, where he devoted the next 29 years to his growing candle-making business.
Today, the family owned business is run by Ernest's grandson Andrew, President, and Rick Keefe, V.P. of Operations. Although ecclesiastical candles, especially devotional votives mostly popular in Catholic Churches and Shrines are still a mainstay of the business, though demand for this has stabilized throughout the years. The stronger area of growth potential has been targeted through scented candles, producing large varieties of fragrances and sizes. There has been a new resurgence in candle usage, with purchases in the 90's growing to a $2.1 billion industry. People are trying to cozy up their homes and candles are an inexpensive way to do it.
