Description

Thanks for stopping by and checking out Todd Clinesmith resonator and Hawaiian guitars. It's a one-man operation out here in Fortuna, CA. I've been playing resonator guitars for over a dozen years, and to further my passion for the instrument I began building in 1996. Simply put, I'm an all-around Dobro® fanatic, and I really believe that for tone, volume, appearance, and craftsmanship, Clinesmiths are among the finest resonator guitars available. Owners include Roger Williams, Ivan Rosenberg, Mike Tatar, Jr., "Dobro" Dick Dillof, Ron Stanley, and Gerry Szostak.

All of my instruments are hand crafted and made of solid woods personally chosen from thousands of board feet. My resonator guitars come in 6, 7, or 8 string models and have a deep profile. I use a unique sound post/baffle construction instead of the plywood "soundwell" found in traditional resonator guitars. With sound posts transferring sound from the top to the back, and baffles optimizing projection, the entire body of the guitar—along with the resonator chamber—contributes to the sound, producing superior volume and bass, and a brighter, fuller tone that grows as the instrument ages. I think this construction is best for bringing out the wood's tonal qualities.

I have 2 models, both of which have a deep profile and the same basic body shape, but the new model also has an arched back and different bracing and baffling. Feel free to email me if you have questions about which model you'd prefer. I am also building Hawaiian "Weissenborn-style" guitars using koa and myrtlewood and am really happy with the results!
