- Autism is a neurobiological disorder that affects a child’s development. Autism was first described in 1943 by Leo Kanner, M.D.. Every child with Autism is affected differently. The symptoms associated with Autism can range from very mild to very severe. In most cases, a child’s communication skills, social skills, and behaviors are affected by the disorder.
