Our name, Bridge to the Mediterranean, reflects a destination into the enchanting world of Moroccan art bridged together by an envisioned Moroccan and an inspired American. Together we journey to bring you a taste of collections that reveal the unique heritage of Morocco and its artisans.
Morocco is located in the northwestern region of North Africa. It is only 8 ½ miles (13.6 kilometers) off the shores of Spain, separated by the Strait of Gibraltar. Since ancient times Morocco has been a strategic crossroad of commerce, cultural influence, education, and the Arts. Morocco’s natural beauty is found in its climate diversity and dramatic contrasts. It’s terrain includes the Atlas and Rif Mountains, Sous River Valley, Sahara desert, and the bordering Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. Inspired artists and writers have been attracted to its amazing panoramic surroundings, quality of light, mysterious sights, and inherent aesthetic values. Included among some of these great artists were, French painter Eugène Delacroix, American author Paul Bowles, and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
Moroccan artisans derive a large part of their materials from natural resources. Their handicrafts reflect the ebb and flow of cultural influences as each region creates rich imagery and designs unique to its own history. Our artisans come from Essaouria, Marrakech, Safi, and Rabat. We offer you a collection that will stir the imagination and satisfy your aesthetic nature. It is more than a display of art ~ it is a Moroccan heritage.
