Blues Society of Austin - The Blues Society of Austin is an organization for performers and fans who appreciate American roots music, blues, and their presence in the Austin community. The Blues Society is important in preserving the great heritage of the blues and helping to assure its survival. Austin plays an important role in the history and future of American blues. Austin is rich in residential blues performers from all generations, from Gary Clark and Nick Curran to Bill Campbell and James Cotton. Unfortunately times have been tough for these players due to a decreasing opportunity for them to play live. Blues players are running out of venues to play in. Even players, who do have gigs, earn a small amount of money and are forced to move on or travel out of town. A change needs to occur in order to bring Austin back to 'a good city to see live blues.' With the support of organizations like The Blues Society of Austin: members, musicians, and venues can come together to help save the old tradition of blues music in Austin, TX. Members and contributors to The Blues Society of Austin can look forward to special events, concerts, links to artists, and much more as the society grows. Please help in keeping the traditions and soul of the blues alive here in Austin.
