Description

I was born in Valdosta, Georgia. Named for the plantation home, "Val d'Aosta," of Governor George Troup, Valdosta is a small town full of historic southern charm. The home place of such luminaries as Doc Holiday, Demond Wilson or Lamont from "Sanford and Son", and Molefi Kete Asante, better known as Arthur Lee Smith Jr. of Temple University, the chair of the first doctorate granting department of African American Studies in the world. Coming from such a background, I have always wondered if dramatic events were bound to happen in my life. I'm still waiting for something dramatic.

I've always held a profound interest in words and writing. As an adolescent, I read Dante's Inferno and Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray. During high school, my taste shifted to science fiction and fantasy. I think I checked out every Edgar Rice Burroughs novel available at the local library. Who wouldn't be impressed with the luscious Deja Thoris and brave, John Carter.

In college, I was one of those students who don't know what they want to be when they grow up. After reading about Johansen's "Lucy", I thought it would be perfect to become an anthropologist and study the evolution of Man. I read M. M. Kaye's Far Pavilions and convinced myself the study of Middle Eastern and ancient history was my passion. I even studied Arabic-- an African American girl from southern Georgia.
